About Us

The roots of the environmental committee were planted 10 years ago between just three environmentally concerned individuals who met on a regular basis to discuss issues and provide action steps such as the routine beach clean ups. Now, the committee is engaged with the “Fundacabo,” a foundation of the affiliates of Cabo Blanco Reserve National Park and hopes to combine the two powers to create a stronghold of environmental conservation for the areas of Mal Pais, Playa Carmen, Santa Teresa, and Playa Hermosa. The environmental committee's primary objective is the environmental sustainability of the area.

Currently, the committee is characterized by the constant commitment and financial support of the Tropico Latino Resort and Spa and Marco D'Annunzio. For the past six years, Margot Toro, who works outside of Tropico Latino, has volunteered as the committee's secretary.

The committee works in coordination with the “Instituo Costarricense de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (AyA)” (Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Storm Drainage) and “Instituto Costarricense de Tourismo” (Costa Rican Tourism Board), and also the Ministerio de Salud (Health Ministry). Combining the efforts of the committee with the three Costa Rican Institutes is leading the way to sustaining the Bandera Azul award.
